As we are coming off all holidays, including Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and Valentine’s Day, you might be thinking to yourself, “Why didn’t I take the opportunity to propose?” Maybe you weren’t ready during that time, and that’s ok because in my opinion, the one thing you shouldn’t do is propose when you know you’re not at that stage in your life yet. Trust me, you’ll know when the time is right, but when that time comes, rest assured, that you don’t have to wait for a major holiday to tell the one you love you want to spend the rest of your life with them.

Proposing itself is like a major holiday, and to tell you the truth, just because you do it on a day Man proposing to his future wifethat isn’t Christmas or Valentine’s, it doesn’t make it any less special or memorable! I was proposed to on December 11th , not a special day to everyone else, but a truly magical day to me and everyone who shared in it with me, including my fiancé, family and closest friends. Days like that also become very unexpected. I think with holidays, couples who have been together for a long period of time start to have this expectation, whether or not it’s the question “is he going to propose,” or “is now the time, would she say yes?” I can’t stress this enough, but don’t let that fear of expectation for proposing on a holiday, make you do it when you are not ready.

Proposing is all about planning. In my opinion the amount of “heart” or thought that goes into a proposal is the most important, not the date that it happens. You also want to make sure the proposal fits both of your personalities, if she is not a very outgoing person or doesn’t like large groups of people, a proposal at a sporting event is probably not a good idea, and the same goes to you. If you get nervous in front of large groups, don’t propose to her in that setting. Proposing is already a nervewracking process, don’t put yourself in a position that will make it worse.
